Madrid operates with a model of depth: 3,012 federated teams and 21 teams in FEB leagues. Barcelona, with an equivalent base, has half the presence in national competitions. The differentiating factor is neither talent nor population: it is strategic institutional support.
It is not a talent deficit.
The gender gap in Barcelona basketball is not a talent deficit, but a failure in the architectural design of the system. Three elements converge:
- →The lack of a bridge category (LF2) in the city.
- →Saturated facilities with a scheduling allocation hostile to women's basketball.
- →A governance structure that does not invest equitably.
Institutional support is the key variable that differentiates the successful models (Girona, Madrid, Bourges) from the stagnant ones (Barcelona city).
