Thirty-eight coaches the system does not count
This season CB Grup Barna has 38 active women coaches, 65% of the club's entire technical staff. They develop players, run teams, mentor and, many of them, coach boys' teams. None holds a federation licence — not because they could not, but because the cost and the timing of the course make it impossible.
As far as the Catalan Basketball Federation's statistics are concerned, these 38 women simply do not exist. And that is not only a problem of individual recognition: when Catalonia designs sports policy on incomplete data, the real numbers of women in technical roles come out below what is actually happening on court.
8 March as a reminder, not a campaign
On 4 March 2026, to coincide with International Women's Day, the club sent a formal letter to the FCBQ president and the Federation's Board. It is not a symbolic gesture: it is a concrete request, with figures, with a co-funding model and with a commitment from the club to cover part of the cost.

The proposal, at three levels
- Level 1 — A grant fund for qualifications. Co-funding of the Level 0 Sports Coach Course: proposed 30% club and 70% FCBQ (or 100% FCBQ for small clubs), with a commitment to stay for two seasons. The Barna has 38 immediate candidates.
- Level 2 — Redesign of the FCBQ Mentoring Programme. Change the entry criterion: from «holding a prior qualification» to «being an active coach at a federated club». It requires no financial investment, only a federation policy decision.
- Level 3 — «From the Clot to Catalonia» pilot programme. Turn the Barna model into a documented, replicable programme, with FCBQ certification as a «Reference Club in Women's Technical Development» and presentation to Barcelona City Council and the Consell Català de l'Esport.
Why the club can ask with authority
CB Grup Barna devotes 50% of its budget to women's basketball, when the sector norm sits at around 35%. 65.5% of its technical staff are women. 57% of the club's structure —20 of its 35 teams— is female. This is not a one-off action for 8 March: it is sixty-one years of a model built in the Clot that had never been set out as a policy proposal.
What the formal request asks for
- An FCBQ Grant Fund for qualifying active women coaches without a licence.
- A change to the entry criterion for the FCBQ Mentoring Programme.
- That CB Grup Barna act as the documented pilot club for the model.
- A transitional register of coaches in training at the FCBQ, to count Catalonia's real women's technical talent.
