Why a basketball club writes a thesis
CB Grup Barna commissioned and merged three independent studies: a doctoral-level literature review on youth basketball (eleven lines of research, eighteen chapters, close to 900 consultations of academic and federation sources), the catalogue of Marc Gasol's public statements about his own development model, and a benchmark by the Marketing Department covering 92 Instagram accounts verified one by one.
The result is not a document to file away in a drawer: it is the case the club puts to the Board, the District and its sponsors.
What the science says about dropout
- Dropout concentrates at ages 12–14, not at 11 — it coincides with the move from under-14 to under-16.
- Enjoyment counts two and a half times more than winning in whether a child keeps playing (correlation 0.45 against 0.18).
- 92.8% of those who stand out at junior level are not those who stand out as adults. Selecting by performance at 12 does not work.
- Being born in January or in December decides more than talent: 50.3% of regional selections were born between January and March, and only 6.8% between October and December.
