Club Bàsquet Grup Barna has become a genuine social and sporting pillar within the Sant Martí district. With inclusion and neighbourhood roots as its banner, the club makes sport accessible to everyone from the legendary court at the Nau del Clot.
To talk about Club Bàsquet Grup Barna is to talk about the living history of El Clot. Founded in 1965, this emblematic club now celebrates sixty-one years of history, establishing itself as one of the largest and most active grassroots basketball clubs in the entire Sant Martí district. Over six decades, the club has not only watched thousands of players grow up on its courts, but has also managed to turn sport into an invaluable tool of social cohesion for the whole neighbourhood. With around 450 members and close to 40 federated teams in competition, it also stands out for a complete parity between its men's and women's sections.
The key to Grup Barna's success and longevity lies in its unique way of understanding the practice of sport. Far from focusing solely on scoreboards or competitive pressure, the club has always been guided by non-negotiable principles: universal access to basketball, real equality of opportunity, diversity and a deep sense of belonging to the neighbourhood. This firm inclusive philosophy translates into concrete actions that fill the area with pride. The best example of this is the Barna Màgics project, a basketball team specially designed for people with intellectual disabilities. Week after week, this section proves that barriers don't exist where there is passion and a will to come together, becoming a benchmark for integration in the city. The club also keeps up a constant bond with community life in the neighbourhood, regularly collaborating with the Eix Comercial del Clot traders' association, local schools and grassroots organisations, taking part in charitable and festive activities that bring the neighbourhood together.
This valuable and ongoing social commitment received significant official recognition from the city of Barcelona's institutions. In February 2026, the Mayor of Barcelona, Jaume Collboni, personally visited the club's official headquarters at the well-known Nau del Clot. During this formal meeting, the mayor wanted to learn first-hand about the details of this major sporting project, formally celebrate its 61 years of history, and praise the club's strong presence in the community.
