CB Grup Barna is one of the largest youth basketball clubs in the Sant Martí district, ranked among the top 20 clubs in Catalonia. From the Escoleta to the two senior teams at the FCBQ Supercup, the club has held to the same idea for six decades: that basketball should be for everyone.
Born in El Clot, in 1965
The club was founded in 1965 in the El Clot neighbourhood, at a time when grassroots sport in Barcelona was almost exclusive to religious and elite schools. A group of young people from the neighbourhood decided that basketball should be accessible to everyone and founded the club. The name comes from the acronym «Grup de Barcelona d'antics estudiants de la Universitat Laboral de Tarragona» (Barcelona Group of former students of the Labour University of Tarragona) — Grup Barna.
sixty-one years later, the club is still in the same neighbourhood, with the same philosophy: that boys and girls from El Clot and Sant Martí have a place to learn basketball, make friendships that last a lifetime and grow as people. It has produced players who later became reference points in Catalan and Spanish basketball, such as Roger Grimau, Germán González, Iván García and Fabian Téllez.
A way of understanding sport
Universal access. Basketball should be for everyone, regardless of background, ability or a family's financial situation. The club maintains social scholarships so that no child is left out for economic reasons.
Real equality. The club allocates more than half of its budget to women's basketball, well above the sector average. And it goes beyond investment: players trained at the club go on, once their playing days are over, to become coaches — many of them coaching men's teams. It's what the club calls the pipeline: a cycle that runs from the Escoleta to competition, and from competition to the coaching staff. 68% of the club's technical staff are women.
Inclusion. The club works to make sure no one is left behind, paying special attention to functional diversity and diversity of every kind.

What level do we play at?
The FCBQ Supercup is the top basketball competition in Catalonia. It isn't a one-off cup or a summer tournament: it's the regional elite league, the highest level attainable within Catalan federated basketball before making the jump to national competitions. The clubs taking part compete in a single group throughout the season against the best teams in Catalonia, and the most ambitious aim to reach the Promotion Stages to the national leagues.

Women's senior team · 4th place in the Supercup
The team closed the 2025-26 season with 17 wins and 7 losses, finishing 4th in the 2026 Women's FCBQ Supercup. A result that is no accident, but the fruit of decades spent training players from a very young age with the Barna Method.
Judit Ortiz was selected for the 2026 Women's FCBQ Supercup All Star team, a recognition of the club's own youth academy. The 2026-27 season tips off in September with both senior teams once again entered in the FCBQ Supercopa. Marta Zori, a specialist in outside shooting, was one of the top perimeter scorers in the whole competition. With more than 200 federated girls, the women's programme is one of the club's biggest engines.
Men's senior team · Elite basketball from the neighbourhood
The men's senior team's participation in the Supercup reinforces a project that has never lost its neighbourhood roots. The key to its growth is the same as for the women's team: a solid training system that backs progression from grassroots to the elite, without outside signings that would break the club's identity.
And basketball is lived live: the Nau del Clot hosts more than 120 home games each season, with 6,000–7,000 attendees a year. Every weekend, basketball at every level in the heart of the neighbourhood.

The neighbourhood club with the biggest digital reach in Barcelona
Grup Barna's stands don't end at the Nau del Clot: they carry on online. The @cbgrupbarna account has close to 7,100 Instagram followers — more than double in three years —, with 439,000 monthly views (verified dashboard, August 2026), an engagement rate of around 6% (triple the sector average) and reels that have reached 150,000 views.
Behind it is an active neighbourhood newsroom: more than 3,700 posts, coverage of every team — men's and women's —, a direct WhatsApp channel with 350 families and stories with over 800 daily views. The club is, in effect, the official media outlet for its own world: matches, training sessions, locker room and neighbourhood, covered every day.

3x3 Westfield Glòries Tournament
Every June, the club takes basketball out of the Nau del Clot and places it in the middle of the city: the 3x3 Westfield Glòries Tournament is CB Grup Barna's biggest open event and one of the highlights of the district's sporting calendar. The 3rd edition (6-7 June 2026) filled the shopping centre for two full days of games.
The 2026 edition's figures: 10 categories — from grassroots to senior —, 100 participating teams, cash prizes, free entry and around 20,000 people passing through the venue over the weekend. The tournament is officially registered with FIBA 3x3 and has attracted teams from Joventut de Badalona and FC Barcelona, as well as clubs from outside Catalonia.
The 2026 edition debuted the Women's, Veterans and EQUALS categories (inclusive basketball), explicitly bringing the values of respect, diversity and equality into sport.
The 3x3 is also a showcase for the club's alliances: Westfield Glòries as host venue, and the neighbourhood's business and community fabric — Eix Clot and partner organisations — as travel companions. A demonstration that neighbourhood basketball can occupy, with quality and ambition, the most visible spaces in Barcelona.
Cistella Petita Day
If the 3x3 is the celebration of basketball open to the city, the Cistella Petita is the celebration for the youngest: the club and neighbourhood's mini-basketball festival, designed so that kids aged 3 to 8 can experience their big day as the absolute stars.
The 2nd edition (13 June 2026) brought together 100 spots among Escoleta players and neighbourhood children, with games, adapted matches, medals and families in the stands. It's many children's first contact with the club — and the natural gateway into Grup Barna's Escoleta.
For the club, the Cistella Petita is much more than a fun day out: it's the first link in the pipeline that starts at age 3 and can end, as both senior teams show, in the elite of Catalan basketball.

The city recognises the club
In February 2026, the Mayor of Barcelona, Jaume Collboni, personally visited the club's headquarters at the Nau del Clot, accompanied by the Sports Councillor, David Escudé. The Mayor got a first-hand look at the sports project, its 61 years of history and its roots in the neighbourhood. A visit that confirms neighbourhood basketball is also part of the city's sporting agenda.
The institutional relationship extends to every level: the club has met with the Catalan Government's Minister for Sport, Berni Álvarez, and with Barcelona's Sports Councillor, David Escudé, to present Grup Barna's sporting and social project.
The institutional bond has stayed alive all season: the club's team presentation — the big family photo of every season — was attended by the vice-president of the Catalan Basketball Federation (FCBQ) and by Sports Councillor David Escudé.
CB Grup Barna was a finalist of the 19th Women and Sport Award from the Barcelona Sports Institute, one of the city's most important recognitions in equality and sport, with the candidacy El Mètode Barna, the club's own model for building female leadership. And this year history repeats itself: the club is once again a finalist of the Women and Sport Award, for the second edition running. Repeating as a finalist is recognition of decades of work, not a single campaign.
